Begin with a hike through a tropical jungle at Kualoa Ranch and your first introduction to Chinaman’s Hat Island. An offshore island that resembles a hat worn by early Chinese immigrants, the legend of the island is well-known throughout Hawaii and is a dirct connection to Hawaii’s ancient past.

Native plants and wildlife are the stars of your hike at Kualoa Ranch, one of Oahu’s oldest and most historic areas. From your expert guide, you will learn of the importance of Kualoa and the surrounding mountains. As you gain elevation on the trail, a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean will have the cameras out quickly. From this vantage point, you can see an ancient Hawaiian Fishpond, in use for over 800 years, dating all the way back to Hawaii’s beginnings.

Your day continues with a guided kayak trip out to Chinaman’s Hat Island, also known as Mokoli’i. Paddle out to the island, where you’ll enjoy lunch and have the opportunity to explore the island, plus you can snorkel in the waters that surround the island. A variety of marine creatures can be spotted while below the surface, and the only bird species that nest here are often spotted.
